Resurfacing work underway on Whitemill Lane
Work started this week on the resurfacing of Whitemill Lane in Walton after years of campaigning by local people.
Residents have battled for years to get roads resurfaced on the former Air Ministry estate in Walton. They said that potholes were a danger to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
After the works were announced, Derek Boult, the chairman of Stone Access Group, thanked town councillors Jill Hood and Mark Green, as well as former councillor George Beecham, for their hard work in bringing the improvements about.
Work finally started this week after the issue was set as a local highways priority by local county councillor Philip Jones.
He said: “People living on Whitemill Lane and the surrounding area have been asking me for some months when the road would be repaired. This has definitely been a highways priority and it’s great to see the team carrying out the work this week. I’m sure people will notice a real difference to the road. Improvements like this really matter to local communities.”
