Police hunt for speed cam attacker

Police are appealing for witnesses after a speed camera on the A34 at Yarlet Bank, Stone, was damaged four times in just five days.

Police say the incidents have happened just after midnight on Wednesday 16th February; at 10.30pm on Friday 18th February; at 10.26pm on Saturday 19th February; and at 12.15am on Monday 21st February.

Sgt Dave Ingham from Stone neighbourhood policing unit said: “It seems
that the offender or offenders have targeted this particular camera on four separate occasions. The casing of the camera has been damaged and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the damage being caused to contact us.”

police on 0300 123 4455, quoting reference 09 of 16 February.

The damaged camera is on the southbound A34, just before the turning for Yarlet School. I drove past the speed camera this morning and it looked like it had been set alight.

    Hi the camera that has been attacked has been turned around facing down the bank for a few days, this is probably due to the incedent we will update if there is anything else happening to it. bye.

        Hi Jamie, the camera is now facing back up the bank to yarlet school. There is ash and tyres on the ground and the back of the camera is pitch black.
