Medieval seal is coming home
The recently discovered Medieval seal from Stone Priory that was found in a field in Surrey will be on show at St Michael’s Church in Stone for three months.
The joint owners and a local historian from the area where it was found will be visiting Stone on Thursday 1st December to hand over the seal for the loan period.
The 12th century seal will then go on display from Friday 2nd December as part of the church’s Christmas Tree Festival.
Philip Leason, the Chairman of Stone Historical and Civic Society, said: “I’m delighted that the people of Stone will be able to see this important artefact and would particularly like to thank the owners for allowing the seal to come on loan and to Mr Chris Copp of the County Museum at Shugborough for all his help and advice on how to display it.”
