Bulldozers ready to demolish Bonnie Gem
Bulldozers are set to move on to the Bonnie Gem pub in Walton any day soon to start demolition before new housing takes the place of the community boozer.
The pub, in Pirehill Lane, has been empty for four months and JMH 10 Ltd had planned to start demolition work today (Sunday 1st July), although there was no sign of bulldozers today. It is believed that 14 new homes will take the place of the community boozer, which opened in 1968.
The Bonnie Gem is to suffer the same fate as The Vine in Oulton Road, which was razed to the ground recently to make way for new homes. Meanwhile, the future of Langtrys in Old Road is in doubt after the pub has been closed for the last few weeks. It is not know when – or if – that pub will be reopened.

Well, use it or lose it as the saying goes. The odds are stacked against pubs surviving these days, and out of the way pubs like the Vine, the Robin Hood, and the Gem are the first to go.
