Rowing challenge at Alleyne’s Sports Centre
A month’s free swim pass is up for grabs in an Olympic-themed challenge at Alleyne’s Sports Centre.
Anyone who signs up to any of Stafford Borough Council’s multi-activity days at Alleyne’s over the summer school holidays can take part in a timed challenge to row 2012 metres.
The challenge will be split into two categories – under-16s and 16 and over. The fastest rower in each category will win a pass, with the top 10 rowers also having their names and times added to a leaderboard.
The indoor rowing challenge will be open at the ‘Active8’ sessions, where youngsters have the opportunity to take part in a structured programme of sports and pool activities led by qualified coaches.
Active8 is part of the Stafford Borough Council ‘Get Out’ holiday activity programme which will be marking London 2012 celebrations with taster sessions in sports which will be highlighted during the Games like badminton, gymnastics, handball, basketball, rowing and triathlon.
The Active8 sessions take place every weekday between 10am to 4pm from 23rd July to 31st August (except ‘taster session Thursdays’ 9, 16, 23, 30 August and bank holiday Monday). There is an early-bird drop-off available at 9am and sessions are £10 per day (early bird £12 per day).
The taster sessions at Alleyne’s on Thursdays are free if individuals book and pay for four Active8 sessions in the same week – visit the centre or call 01785 815715 for bookings.
