Shops hit gold with window displays
The Heart of England in Bloom judges were in town on Thursday and shopkeepers made an Olympian effort to make sure the High Street was looking even better than normal.
Shops entered an Olympic and sports window display competition organised by Stone in Bloom to coincide with the visit of the judges. Lots of shops took part, with some great displays on show.
The winner was the Wikijum Fairtrade shop, whose display featured lots of plants growing from… trainers! The display is brilliantly quirky but has a serious message, focusing on the role of sport for the United Nations and its power to build peace and resolve conflict.
Stone will find out in September if we’ve won a fifth gold medal in a row.
Before that, however, on 9th August, judges from Britain in Bloom will be in town as Stone enters the national competition for the first time.
Stone in Bloom volunteers have been working hard to make sure the town looked its best for the Heart of England judges and will be doing the same for the judges in August.
