Stone has won gold for the SEVENTH year running in the Heart of England in Bloom awards.
The town picked up a gold medal in the Large Town category today after another great year for the Stone In Bloom volunteers, who have been hard at work making sure the town looked its very best for the visit of the judges in July.
As well as the usual displays and beautiful wildflower , this year saw the team creating ‘Edible Vegetable’ mini allotments around the town, including in Stonefield Park and in Stafford Street.
The group also held a community clean-up in March after Stone was hit by a spate of graffiti (click HERE to see a video report), worked with local schools on mini-garden and poster competitions, held a window display competition with local businesses and lots more – including working incredibly hard over the hot summer to make sure the scorching temperatures didn’t destroy the town’s displays (more on that HERE).
The amazing achievement is reward for the volunteer team’s efforts over the last 12 months, as well as local businesses, community groups and the borough council’s Streetscene team.
Jill Hood from Stone In Bloom said: “We’re delighted to win another gold medal and I’d like to say a huge thank you to all members of the Stone In Bloom working group for all their hard work.”
A HUGE well done to them! Click HERE to get in touch with the Stone In Bloom team if you’d like to get involved.
