‘Autumn in Stone’ photo competition winners

Matthew Adams

This moodily atmospheric shot of a misty Trent and Mersey canal by Matthew Adams won the over-18 category of our ‘Autumn in Stone’ photo competition.

Matthew, who’s 32 and lives in Mount Street, took the photo from Stafford Street by The Star pub. He said: “It was cold, dark, a little foggy and the smell of smoke from the narrowboats was amazing. All this was something I’d not seen before at the lock.”

Matthew wins lunch for two at Cullens, Stone’s newest restaurant. Thanks to Richard and Kara for the prize.

Second in the over-18 category was this photo – again with a canal theme – by Paul Newton…

Second place in the under-18 category was this photograph taken at Downs Banks by 17-year-old Louise Baker. She said: “My photo was taken at the Stone side of the Downs Banks while I was out walking my dog. It is all natural light, with no editing In front of me, in Stoke, it was raining, yet behind me, in Stone, it was glorious sunshine. Moments after this photo was taken the downpour arrived, which would have made for a whole different photo!”
