Staffordshire Day will take place for the first time this year to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the county’s foundation. As the name suggests, it will celebrate all that’s great and good about Staffordshire – from its stunning rural scenery, to its fascinating history and heritage. The day will simultaneously commemorate the foundation of arguably the county’s most iconic brand – Josiah Wedgwood & Sons – which was founded on May 1st 1759, fact fans!

To mark the occasion, Aston Marina will host a special Love Staffordshire Produce event, offering visitors the chance to discover some of the fabulous local food and drink available from its award-winning farm shop and deli. This includes the wide selection of quality meat from the Marina’s butchery – all sourced from within the county’s borders – as well as the incredible cheese counter which, rated among the top 10 in the country, features a number of Staffordshire cheeses.

The day’s festivities will also see two of the Marina’s Staffordshire-based suppliers – Mike’s Homemade and Just Crisps – on hand to offer tastings and insights into the food they produce.

Director Helen Webb says:  “Local produce is at the heart of what we do – all of our meat is sourced within 20 miles and is selected for its quality, taste and high welfare standards. But it’s not just the butchery where you can find local goodies – the fruit and veg is all grown and picked within several miles of the Marina.

“Visitors will also discover a delectable range of local artisan products like honey, condiments, crisps and Staffordshire brewed ales – even the milk, butter and free range eggs in the dairy section hail from within the county’s borders. In short, if you want to celebrate Staffordshire food, come down to the Marina on Staffordshire Day to sample the very best of the county’s larder.”

In addition to discovering local food, visitors will have the chance to enter a competition to win a luxury hamper packed with delicious Staffordshire goodies – and will also enjoy a 10% discount on all Staffordshire-produced items purchased on the day.

All you need to do to join in the fun is simply pop into the Farm Shop on Sunday 1st May between 10am and 5pm. There will be no charge for admission and parking is free.
