SCSL Division One
Saturday 28th January 2017
Stone Dominoes finished the month of January without a victory to their name as a late equaliser denied them all 3 points and the chance to move back to the top of the league table.
Ash Thompson broke the deadlock in the 57th minute but the visitors were quickly level as David Iacarno dispatched a penalty on the hour mark. Keeylin Thomas’ goal against his former club looked to have won it for Dominoes with 5 minutes remaining before Josh Buxton slammed home from close range just 3 minutes later for a share of the spoils.
In a quiet first period the only notable event came midway through the half when James Lindop took exception to a late Jake Hughes challenge and, after a flashpoint involving the pair, both were maybe lucky to stay on the pitch. Tom Broadhurst had chance to put the hosts ahead early in the second half when he latched onto a ball across the box but his effort was blocked well by Chris Stevenson.
Thompson scored the opener minutes later when he picked the ball up 25 yards out and fired low past Liam McHugh into the bottom corner. The lead lasted less than 3 minutes as Jack Steele was adjudged to have upended Iacarno just inside the area and the Abbey forward dusted himself down to slam home the spot-kick. Broadhurst might have given Dominoes the lead again with 15 minutes remaining but, with a clear sight of goal, he blazed his effort over from 12 yards.
The home side must have thought they had won it when Thomas turned in a Chris Nellis cross for his first Dominoes goal but when a corner was only half cleared 3 minutes later Josh Buxton was on hand at the far post to turn into an empty net. Dominoes drop to third following the draw and will hope to pick up their first win of 2017 when they welcome Wolverhampton Sporting Community Under 21s to Yarnfield on Saturday.
