Semi finals win for Alleynes Connexsus

Over 100 pupils from mid & north Staffordshire battled it out in the county semi-finals of this year’s Young Enterprise

The programme, being co-ordinated by Staffordshire County Council helps young people develop their business and personal skills by creating their own company and products.

Alleynes Academy team Connexsus  were winners from mid Staffordshire with their Smoothie Jigsaw to encourage children to eat more fruit.

Other winners from the county were:

Fom the north heat Enviro Pallets from Madeley High School won with their novel approach to recycling old storage pallets.

The Innovation Award for north Staffordshire went to Wisdom from Wolstanton High School who developed a book and tooth cleaning kit that encourages children to brush their teeth.

Journey Awards went to Zeal from Walton High School & Fabric Works from Stoke 6th Form College, while wild card and Innovation Award Winners were Orbit from King Edward VI High School with their innovative Augmented reality Story Book.

Judges were very impressed with all the teams and Jane Belcher, HR Manager with Michelin said:

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our involvement with this year’s Programme. We have been extremely impressed with the range of products the teams have developed, how the students have clearly recognised the transferable skills they have developed and the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated”.

Tony Baines, Commissioner for Skills & Employability at Staffordshire County Council added his congratulations to all the teams. Tony said:

“We’ve been following these young entrepreneurs progress carefully, from creating their companies, developing their business ideas and products to getting out selling them to the public.

“They have been on an exciting journey, learning vital business and personal skills all of which will benefit them both in life and whatever career they choose.”

The semi-finals were held at World of Wedgwood on Wednesday 5th April with the finalists going through to the county finals on the 10th May. The county winners will then go on to the regional competition later in June.

Cora Berrisford from Alleynes Academy said:

“From only becoming MD of Connexsus since February I am so proud of the effort the team have made in the final few weeks; we really worked together and have achieved so much. We couldn’t be happier with this amazing achievement”
