Election Results : Jill Hood takes Stone Urban, Ian Parry retains Stone Rural

Election ResultsIndependent Jill Hood pulled off an election surprise as she overturned Conservative Philip Jones from the Stone Urban County Council seat.

Jill who previously stood in the Stone Rural division took the win with 43% of the vote to Philip Jones’s 34%. UKIP fell from second place in 2013 to 4th place, a drop from 25% of the vote to 6%.

Ian Parry saw a massive turn up with his share of his vote, rising from 37% in 2013 (a fall from the 57% in 2009) to a dominant 68% share of the vote. It looks like the voters who’d backed UKIP in 2013 switched their backing to the conservatives for 2017.

Throughout the campaign we’ve heard of a lack of canvassing and leafleting from the prospective candidates. What would you like to see from the candidates for future elections?

  1. Well done Jill – now please get rid of that ridiculous ‘splinter island’. As soon as I saw your view on that you got my vote!

  2. Hilary Pritchard

  4. I live in Aston. Not one leaflet through my door. Well done Jill Hood.

  5. Not one leaflet through my door, very little information about candidates online either. It’s the information era, candidates should be taking advantage of this.

  6. Elizabeth Reeves

I felt unable to vote as I had no idea of the majority of candidates policies. The one candidate who did put out election material did not inspire me.
