Stone Dominoes missed the chance to clinch the league title to add to their promotion in their final game of the season as they finally succumbed to their opponents after playing 80 minutes with a man less.
Endon Adams had given the visitors an early lead and, although Ash Thompson saw red a minute later, Jake Hughes doubled the lead, before an own goal and James Plumb levelled proceedings before the break.
A late David Johnson strike secured the points for fourth-placed MMU.
Dominoes were without Tom Broadhurst, Keeylin Thomas and Jack Steele through injury while top scorer Julian Paterson also missed out.
The away side were quickly into their stride and went ahead in somewhat fortuitous fashion when Endon Adams’ cross looped over goalkeeper James Wilson and into the far corner.
Less than 60 seconds later Ash Thompson was adjudged to have swung an elbow at Mark Barnett and was dismissed by the referee after consultation with his assistant.
Midway through the half the 10 men doubled the lead when Hughes controlled a cross 6 yards out and fired the ball into the roof of the net.
The hosts reduced the deficit just before the half hour mark when a scramble in the penalty area resulted in Mark James’ attempted clearance from underneath the crossbar ending up in the roof of the net.
An equaliser came less than 3 minutes later in bizarre fashion when Nick Glover kicked the ball against James Plumb, the ball bouncing into the ground and looping over three scrambling Dominoes players and into the top corner.
Dominic Dalls came close to giving the home side the lead just before half time but his free kick was spectacularly tipped over by Dan Marsh as it headed for the top corner.
The eleven men should have been ahead for the first time in the game in the 52nd minute but Plumb somehow struck his effort against the crossbar from 3 yards out with the goal gaping.
Ciaran Rodway went close again for MMU midway through the half as he reacted quickly but steered his effort inches wide of Marsh’s post.
The away side came within inches of taking the lead again in the 77th minute but Ryan Mayer saw his volley strike the foot of the post and rebound away to safety.
Danny Glover must have seen his name in lights 9 minutes from time as he rounded the goalkeeper not once but twice but as he attempted to drill the ball past the recovering defenders on the line he lifted his effort over the crossbar.
The winner came 5 minutes from time when Johnson superbly spun Ryan Parkes before driving into the penalty area and sliding the ball underneath Marsh from a narrow angle to signal wild celebrations from the home side.
Dominoes still retain slim hope of finishing the season on top of the pile as second place Foley attempt to take the points against recently out of sorts Milton United on Saturday but whatever the outcome the Stone side can now look forward to the challenges of the Premier Division next season.
