Staffordshire’s 19th Century country house Sandon Hall will open its gates to the public for the second annual Sandon Spring Fair on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May.
The event, organised in partnership with the team behind the Stone Food & Drink Festival, is a true celebration of the great British spring. Crowds will be treated to talks and demonstrations throughout the weekend on topics ranging from silk painting to butchery; cookery classes to tutored beer tastings and jewellery making to wedding hair and makeup styling, alongside artisan food and craft stalls to browse.
Acoustic music and singing acts from pop to classical and dance displays will grace a stage in the centre of the hall’s sweeping lawn while a beer tent, licensed bar and stalls serving barista-style coffees and teas will ensure everyone stays refreshed – and there will also be a display of classic cars, courtesy of the Stone classic car club.
A host of ‘street food’ style outlets will provide plenty of choice for those who have worked up an appetite hot food on the go, while those seeking more genteel refreshment can head to the pop-up tea room to enjoy a delicious selection of cakes served with teas and coffees by the ladies of Sandon Church.
Catering for families with young children will be a farm zone with friendly animals to meet and fun farm facts to learn offers a great way to while away time, as does a special treasure trail by Discovery Trails Staffordshire which will give youngsters a number of clues to discover and solve, with all correct solutions going into a great prize draw. With both the farm area and treasure trails free of charge, pocket money treats such as fun fair rides, face painting and craft activities will ensure there’s never a dull moment.
Despite so much going on, the star of the show very much remains the hall itself – and this event presents a rare opportunity not only to explore the 50 acres of beautiful formal gardens, but to book a tour to see behind the scenes of what remains a private family home to the Harrowby family
General Manager at Sandon Hall, Cheryl Millward, says: “Last year’s Spring Fair had a lovely atmosphere and this year we are determined to make it even better. There’s more for families to do, the entertainment is more diverse and there will be more generally going on around the grounds – like croquet and giant Jenga set out for people to enjoy at their leisure. The atmosphere will be like one big garden party, and with Sandon Hall designed for entertaining on a grand scale, there couldn’t be a better setting!”
Sandon Spring Fair will take place on Sat 27 & Sun 28 May 2017. Day tickets on the gate are prices at £6pp for adults and £2pp for children 2-16 with discounts for advance bookings online. House tours can also be booked in advance online for £11pp inclusive of entry to the Spring Fair (children under 16 can join their parents/carers on the tour free of charge) and any remaining spaces may be booked on the weekend itself for £7pp on top of the entry fee.
