Food & drink businesses from across the county can learn how to protect themselves from cyber crime at a Stoke-on-Trent seminar in June.
Being held at Titanic Brewery in Middleport on June 20th (12pm-4pm), the free Taste of Staffordshire event has been organised by Destination Staffordshire and NFU Mutual’s Stone Agency. It will feature presentations from NFU Mutual Commercial Development Specialist (Retail and Wholesale) Frank Woods and Internet Central Head of Sales Scott James.
Frank Woods said: “Cyber crime is a growing threat to all businesses and an attack could have dire consequences.
“The Office for National Statistics estimates there were 5.8 million incidents in England and Wales in 2015/16, which represents a direct financial loss of £36m a year to UK businesses, according to the British Retail Consortium.
“30% of consumers would change suppliers if the company they are using becomes a victim of a cyber attack.
“Our event will cover how businesses can prevent a disastrous attack by adding some basic protections to their IT systems.”
Titanic Brewery owner Keith Bott, who will open the seminar, will give a brief history of the company, which was established in 1985 and now operates eight pubs and produces over 2.3m pints of beer every year. Following the presentations there will be a buffet lunch and networking.
