A new family event at Stafford Castle will see the venue awash with colour, sounds and great tastes this weekend.
A range of music, along with pop up street food stalls and street entertainment will be on show at the first ever Stafford Castle’s Summer Sunday (9 July). Different types of cuisines including authentic Caribbean dishes, seafood and a hog roast will be available, as well as free activities such as face painting, street entertainers, and circus workshops – with music throughout the day.
Activities get underway at 12 noon with the food stalls and licenced bars available until the 7pm close. It costs £5 for those over 12 years old with younger children free. Car parking on the Castle site is £5 for the day.
Kicking off the event on the main stage will be Theatre 1, and popular local band Pelo, and DJ Greyskooledits and Rotation will be bringing the curtain down on the day. And there will be a number of other performances on the acoustic stage by local acts.
Councillor Mike Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Stafford Borough Council, said: “The aim of our new event is for the whole family to have a relaxing afternoon in the grounds of the town’s most famous landmark. It is a new event to the 2017 calendar and we hope the range of activities on the day will provide some fantastic entertainment for children, families and friends.”
The Castle has dominated the Stafford skyline for more than 900 years having been built on the instructions of William the Conqueror. It provides the dramatic backdrop to the internationally recognised Shakespeare Festival as well as other popular events such as the Classic Car Show.
