Barlaston Open Gardens brings community together

Eighteen gardens opened to the public in Barlaston over the weekend & visitors were rewarded with beautiful sunshine from midday onwards.

The event was organised by the Barlaston Community Group & originally designed to bring the community together. This was the second year of opening & with over 200 visitors & a waiting list of gardens, it looks like becoming an annual event! A wide variety of gardens – large & small, formal & wild, themed & casual, were open to provide inspiration, ideas for texture & form (for the Chelsea Flower show fans!) or in some cases just an opportunity to meet up with friends & neighbours for a cuppa & a chat!

It was great fun & many compliments were received. The stars of the show this year were James Brown & partner who surprised visitors with four stunning separate but integrated plots that they have cultivated for the residents of Flaxman Close. This truly is Community Spirit in action and everyone was in awe of what they have achieved!

Residents opening their gardens raised several hundred pounds for their individual charities from sales of refreshments & the profits from ticket sales will be put back into the community supporting events such as Open Gardens, Film Night, Tea Parties & Pop-up Suppers. Huge thanks to everyone who supported the event & we look forward to seeing you again next year!
