On Saturday morning five Canal and River Trust volunteers, along with two CRT managers, spent the morning meeting and greeting the public of Stone as they walked or traveled along the canal towpath by Boatyard lock.
The volunteers, who help maintain the canal and the locks, showed the many interested passers by the work that they do and what has been done to the canal in Stone to keep it operational.
Over 50 people stopped to chat or view the display. Four people expressed an interest in becoming a volunteer and many more were interested in supporting the idea of Stone adopting the canal to keep it looking good.
Stone Town Council will be discussing the concept of adoption on 5th September with a view to a meeting for all concerned to be held at the Council Chamber at 7.00 pm on 20th September.
