Fostering roadshow comes to Stone Friday 15th September

Cliff and Elaine WhiteleyA roadshow that’s coming to Stone on Friday 15th September demonstrates that whether you’re a Biker or a Hiker, a Goal Keeper or a Bee Keeper you could be a foster carer.

Amongst Staffordshire’s 350 foster families are bikers, bakers, beekeepers, musicians, military history re-enactors, professional athletes and many more.

Now, Staffordshire County Council’s latest fostering campaign is reminding people that there’s no such thing as a typical foster carer.

Staffordshire biker and foster carer Cliff Whiteley is leading the latest ‘It takes all sorts’ campaign to highlight the urgent need for foster families.

Cliff and his wife Elaine have been foster carers for 17 years and now want to help encourage more people to come forward.  Cliff said: “It doesn’t matter what your hobby is, being a biker hasn’t held me back, and foster carers from all different backgrounds and interests are needed. In fact, having motorbikes at home became a real talking point and interest for the children we have fostered over the years.  So, even if you have a slightly unusual hobby, don’t think you can’t foster.  It’s a brilliant thing to do that’s incredibly rewarding and makes a real difference.”

Staffordshire needs around 50 foster families over the next year with a particular need for carers for teenagers and sibling groups.

“We are always looking for foster families to come forward and there’s no such thing as a typical foster carer,” explained Mark Sutton, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council.

Mark said: “Many people rule themselves out of fostering because they think they won’t be considered because of the jobs they do, or the hobbies and interests they have. But this is not the case and our latest campaign is reminding people that we need all sorts of families from all kinds of backgrounds.

“People who want to foster simply need to care about children, have good communication skills, have a spare room and be ready for a challenge.  If this sounds like you then please get in touch or visit one of our roadshows over the next few weeks.”
