Cheadle Town 1 Stone Dominoes 3
SCSL Premier Division
Saturday 16th September 2017
Stone Dominoes made it 3 wins from 3 in September as a Jon Hancock brace helped them come from behind to take the points in Cheadle.
Dan Harper had put the home side ahead from the penalty spot early on before Hancock levelled proceedings midway through the half. Jules Paterson’s first goal of the season 4 minutes into the second period gave Dominoes the lead before Hancock himself converted a spot-kick with 20 minutes remaining.
Club captain Mark James returned for Dominoes along with Hancock but they were still without a host of players including Endon Adams (injury), Nasser Mansour (illness), Jordan Condliffe (holiday), Chris Nellis (work), Marcus Thorp (holiday) and Ash Thompson (suspension). Under 21 players Cameron Waltho and Ryan Bromley were included for the first time.
After a cagey start to the game from both sides the deadlock was broken in the 15th minute when Mark James was adjudged to have brought down Jake Alcock in the area and Harper duly dispatched the penalty past Adam Johnson. Paterson had chance to equalise 5 minutes later when he latched onto a Hancock pass but he dragged his effort wide of the post with just goalkeeper Jake Tanner to beat.
Hancock found the net himself in the 22nd minute when he poked home Lee Foyle’s knockdown in the middle of the penalty area. Mark Broom’s long pass found Paterson in behind the home defence on the half hour mark but his attempted lob over Tanner drifted over the crossbar as well.
It was third time lucky for Paterson early in the second half as he raced onto a flick from Hancock in the 49th minute before sliding the ball past Tanner to give Dominoes the lead for the first time in the game. Hancock was prevented from getting his second of the game on the hour mark when his long range effort was saved well by Tanner before the goalkeeper was called into action again 5 minutes later as he got down well to turn another Hancock effort round the post.
The hosts came within inches of an equaliser in the 67th minute when Matt Woodward’s glancing header grazed the outside of Johnson’s far post. With 20 minutes remaining the away side doubled their advantage when Hancock stroked home a penalty after his shot had struck an outstretched Cheadle arm.
Daniel Boot came close to reducing the deficit with 15 minutes remaining as he directed his header inches past the post but Dominoes were able to see the game out without anymore cause for concern to take the points.
