Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October and the pumpkin is often the centre piece of the decorations.
Although local fruit & veg shops as well as supermarkets stock these mammoth orange squashes there’s something special about roaming around a field and finding “your” pumpkin.
From Stone there are couple of nearby farms that allow people, and especially families, to go along to pick their own pumpkins.
The nearest place is the Canal Side Farm and Cafe which is just up the A51 at Great Haywood. They will be opening their pumpkin patches on Saturday 14th October and Sunday 15th October and then Saturday 21st October to 31st October…..or until they run out of pumpkins!
They’re also running kids Halloween workshops giving some back ground on the growing of the pumpkins and how to carve them! There are 4 workshops on two separate days, Tuesday 24th October & Thursday 26th October 2017 – More details on their website – Pumpkin Workshops
A little bit further afield, although not too far, is Moors Covert Farm at Bednall. They’ve been growing pumpkins for years and their PYO is incredibly popular. Moors Covert farm opens its pumpkin fields for picking between 21st October until 31st October and they also have a straw castle and sand to play (no cost) and all sorts of Halloween things to buy plus refreshments.
