Stone Childminder Wins National Award

Local Childminder Stephanie Brown has won the Exceptional Service Award at the 4th BizMums Awards.

Stephanie started her own childminding business due to changes in her personal circumstances with 10 years worth of knowledge of working in nursery’s, and different childcare settings. Research showed there was a need for top quality childcare very early morning, school run, late evenings and over night and most of all flexibility for working parents.

Working alongside Ofsted & part of the outdoor childcare association, Stephanie engages the children in a multitude of activities to stimulate all their senses, provides challenging but fun activities, as well as developing their social skills and a responsible attitude.

She says: “I was astonished to find out I was finalised within this category. I had set up my childminding due to knowing I needed this type of provision myself as a single mother, I had a gut feeling more families needed it but not to the high level of demand I have. When my name was called as winner I was in total shock, I was up again other brilliant mothers inc counselors etc. I felt I had no way of winning against ladies who changed other people lives around. I have always been modest about the service I provide as well as knowing it was very important to the families I work with.”

Stephanie has also set up Stone Parent and Child Group with a friend; it lists all the toddler groups, classes etc around Stone, when they run and all the information needed to attend. A valuable one stop information place kept up to date, which can only be a valuable asset to the community and users.

The BizMums awards were established in 2013 by BizMums Founder Michelle Childs to recognise the achievements of mums in business across the UK. This years event is sponsored by 90 Days of Social.

Jo Howard, the judge for the Exceptional Service category, said: “I choose Stephanie as the winner of this award because her passion and dedication jumped off the page to me. She looks after the most precious people in our lives and she does this with love, care and flexibility. The parents that work with her trust her with their children, she takes that trust and repays it tenfold. Her work is nothing short of amazing”

“Building up her business as well as looking after her own children has thrown up some challenges, which Stephanie has faced head on, she was determined to get her business off the ground and now has a thriving business.  She engages with the parents and has put their needs and the children’s before her own, the flexibility that she provides means the parent can totally rely  on her. No job is to small, last minute changes are catered for, the needs of the parents and children are paramount to Stephanie.

The winner was announced on Sunday, October 8th, 2017, at the annual BizMums Conference & Awards at the Manor House in Alsager, Cheshire. The day brought together over 120 of women in business from across the UK to network, learn and celebrate each other’s achievements of the past 12 months.
