Sandon Hall’s Christmas events start this weekend, to help get you into the spirit of the season.
The Staffordshire country house will be opening its doors for two festive celebrations in the coming weeks, and as an extra special treat, one horse open ‘sleigh’ carriage rides around the grounds will be available throughout the course of both events.
Sandon Christmas Fair – Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 November
This weekend will see the return of the popular Sandon Christmas Fair; with visitors able to shop for unique Christmas gifts from artisan stalls that offer everything from children’s books and toys to handmade jewellery, handcrafted items, artisan cosmetics, kitchenware and locally produced food gifts.
There will be plenty of choice when it comes to food and drink when you’ve worked up an appetite – and a thirst – from traditional Hog Roast baps with all the trimmings to pizzas, paninis and elegant afternoon teas with a festive twist. A licenced bar will serve mulled wine, Christmassy gin cocktails and locally brewed ales while hot chocolates, teas and barista-style coffees will also be on offer. It’s worth bringing your winter warmers along too as the hall’s 50 acres of formal garden will be open to explore, while there will be family-friendly crafts and a Christmas trail on offer.
Entry on the gate is £4 for adults and£2 for children aged 3-15.
Santa at Sandon – Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 December
A very special guest will be arriving at the hall the following weekend. Father Christmas will be seeing young visitors in the library to find out what they’d like under the tree on Christmas morning before presenting them with a small gift. There will be craft activities and a festive trail on offer plus grown-ups will enjoy a roast turkey bap with all the trimmings as part of their ticket price.
Child £10 / Adult £5. Advance booking is essential both days.
If you’ve ever dreamt of dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, Sandon Hall is offering the next best thing on the weekends of its Christmas Fair and Santa visits. While snow can’t be promised and it is a horse-drawn carriage rather than a sleigh, you will still get chance to see the estate from a different perspective as you are whisked off for a tour of the grounds in all their seasonal glory.
£25 for a family of four (children under 11) or £10 per adult advance booking is essential as spaces are being reserved quickly.
