The award-winning family arts festival has begun to reveal its plans for 2018.

The Just So Festival is now in its 9th year and takes place over the weekend of the 17th – 19th August 2018.

This child-focused festival offers something for all the family. The annual Just So Festival is an imaginative outdoor adventure like no other. As one of the top family festivals in the world, it’s the place to see new outdoor arts each year.

With a love of stories and childhood escapades at its heart, families can escape and get away from it all!

The festival features a Tribal Tournament, the most bonkers competition in the land! Visitors will go on a unique expedition of mischief and mayhem. Get ready for lands full of magical midnight feasts and curious creatures. There will be raucous pillow fights and hidden retreats.

New Areas for 2018

Just So FestivalEnter the intriguing Playground of Illusions, an area of mystery and trickery. from Travelling Light Circus – see the world in a new light in this hypnotic fusion of science and art. Explore and play together in a mysterious collection of giant experiences. These experiences each contain an illusion and make incredible things happen. Look out for “The Gravity Vortex Floor” and “The Utterly Convincing Mirage”. There’s the “The Forever Speeding Up Rhythm” the hypnotic Pendulum Wave Machine.

Roll Up, Roll Up celebrates 250 years since the first circus in the world. This is a large-scale, lakeside area, dedicated to all things circus and seaside. In this most spectacular area, you can expect tumblers, somersaults and aerial mastery. The area will feature the best performers in the land including the spectacular high wire show Equilibrius. There will also be tightrope workshops from The Bullzini Family.

Just So FestivalThere’s a brand new show from Ramshacklicious, The Band At The End of the World! featuring raucous brass music and existing within their very own miniature apocalyptic micro-climate. Meet curious characters at sideshows galore (including the Levitating Wonder and Fear Eater), try your hand at all manner of circus amazement with Circus House, and relax and play together on the stunning lakeside beach.

The Flamingo Lounge is an area filled to the brim with all things dance and tripping the light fantastic. Take part in fast-paced Modern Warrior from Rosie Kay Dance Company. Channel your inner Bruce Lee, pick a side and learn exciting and dramatic sequences as two opposing groups meet in an epic stand-off! Take part in unmissable music and dance performances and workshops. Stephen Salinger and Lana Williams (choreographer for Strictly no less) will be leading these. Strut your stuff at Silent Discos from Our Kids Social and summon all strength for Power Ballad Yoga. Whirl, swirl, disco, cancan, jive, shimmy, swing, two-step! Throw ALL the shapes together in this gloriously kitsch wonderland. When evening comes you can boogie the night away here too!

Just So FestivalAward-winning author and comedian James Campbell will be here with his new show. Have I Got News For Kids is a hilarious look at the week’s news from the perspective of children. There will be special guests, the actual headlines and issues relevant to children. From education, the environment, the near extinction of lollipop ladies, tooth fairies and “what the flumming bling is going on with everything lately.”

 

Head into the woods to indulge in relaxation, tranquillity and rejuvenation in the Idlewood area. Enjoy family yoga, tai chi, Indian head massage and reiki. Unwind in hammocks and experience dreamy live music and performance together including Canopy of Stars performed in the trees from Whispering Woods.

Just So Foxes

Over in the Ministry of Games barn, you’ll find the ultimate board games experience. Settle down on a sofa and get your game face on. Hone and learn powers of cunning, dexterity, strategy and (ahem) fair play together. Roll the dice, choose your counter, deal the cards, pick your pieces and come and play some of the best board and parlour games ever. Quick or slow, little or large there’ll be games for all.
