The “Children Matter – Learning Together” project is expanding into Stone and is looking for volunteers
Children Matter – Learning Together is a unique project run by Age UK South Staffordshire in partnership with Age UK North Staffordshire and Entrust.
The project was launched in September 2016 and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund for three years. The aim to recruit and train volunteers aged 50+ to help out in primary / first schools listening to children read.
The service is completely free of charge to schools and now covers the whole of Staffordshire.
The first volunteer has already been placed at Christ Church First School with a second volunteer due to start at St. Michael’s First School very soon.
The commitment is for 2-3 hrs per week – term time only- and subject to a DBS check.
There will be full training, support and travel expenses and volunteers don’t need to have any previous experience.
This project follows on from a successful Children Matter project which came third in the Best Education Project category in the National Lottery Awards in 2016. Our volunteers inform us that volunteering with the children is very rewarding, and the children enjoy and benefit from the interaction with older adults.
