Stone Rugby Club have announced that they will be establishing a youth ‘tag rugby’ section for the upcoming rugby season. The section, initially open to those born between 01/09/2008 and 31/08/2010 has been opened to due repeated demand from local parents.
‘We’ve have many parents asking if we offer youth rugby over the past few months’ said Stone RUFC Head Coach Ged Hall, ‘and we think it’s a great way for the club to offer the local community a way to get their kids active. We will be starting the first year with tag rugby, which is non-contact and is a great way to get kids involved in physical activity. With the Rugby 7’s in Rio having gained a lot of attention we are sure that there are some kids who would love to be involved with the game and we are delighted to give them that chance. The focus of these sessions are not on producing a winning team, but rather ensuring that the kids involved are having fun and are fully involved.’
The club’s launch comes at a time where Rugby Union is reporting an increase in playing numbers with growth in the amount of those playing non-contact forms of the game. The number of females playing the game has also grown.
The sessions will take place on Sundays starting from the 4th September at Stone Hockey & Rugby Club on Enson Lane starting from 9.30am and will last around one hour. The sessions are open to both boys and girls. No specialist equipment is needed for the first few weeks, although a pair of rugby or football boots may become invaluable!
