Pledge from new police commander

It’s ‘business as usual’ for neighbourhood officers in Stone, despite major changes to policing across Staffordshire – so says the new commander of the Stafford Borough local policing team (LPT).

Nine local policing teams, matching local authority boundaries, came into force earlier this month, with Stone falling under the Stafford Borough team.

Each new LPT has units with teams of officers and PCSOs responsible for getting to know local communities and dealing with the things that matter most to them.

These neighbourhood teams will be protected says Chief Supt Jon Drake, the new commander of Stafford Borough LPT.

He said: “We are absolutely committed to protecting neighbourhood officer numbers and delivering high quality policing to our communities. Residents will continue to have named, locally-based officers focused on dealing with the issues that matter to local people.”

Chief Supt Drake has also written an open letter to all residents in Stone and the wider borough in an information leaflet, where he mentions local police stations.

Stone police station will be closing when an alternative site in the town is found. Chief Supt Drake says: “As your local commander I am absolutely committed to ensuring that we continue to have a strong, highly visible and easily accessible presence at the heart of your communities.

We won’t, of course, be making any moves until we’ve found somewhere better.”

And he’s also recorded this video…
