Moddershall Oaks is expanding its facilities and creating an extra 18 jobs as it aims to double the number of day visitors and further cement its position as one of the UK’s leading destination spas.
The expansion – which has been given planning consent – is being part funded through the Rural Development Programme for England, which is jointly funded by DEFRA and the European Union. Altogether the business is investing £550,000.
This family-run spa business founded by the Holland family in December 2000 has developed from a small day spa to a successful destination spa employing over 50 staff. The new development will enable the business to host double the number of day spa visitors, providing them with a wider choice of thermal, relaxation and dining facilities.
The development has been conceived in conjunction with local Staffordshire architects Forshaw Greaves & Partners and leading London spa designers, Sparc Studio. The new facilities will optimise the guest experience and Moddershall Oaks’ English countryside location and includes:
- Landscaped outdoor spa garden and courtyard terrace, with a raised 25 sq.m vitality spa pool, Finnish kelo sauna cabin, feature showers and, outdoor log fire to keep guests warm and snug whatever the season
- Spa deli and bar area, with sophisticated country design and, inside outside feel. And, spectacular views over the Staffordshire countryside. Offering a delicious range of light bites, snacks and hot and cold beverages, many from local suppliers
- Cosy fireside spa lounge; providing a social hub for guest relaxation in between treatments.
In addition to the new spa area, Moddershall Oaks is creating a glamorous Express Beauty Suite. This chic pampering zone includes; luxury treatment bar dedicated to manicures, pedicures, make up classes and product sampling. This room will be available for private use by small spa groups of between 4-10 people, perfect for hen parties, baby showers, graduations and birthdays.
Work on the new development will get under way this week and is expected to be completed by March 2014. Disruption to guests will be kept to a minimum, as the works are limited to the reception and fitness area of the property. The indoor pool and thermal suite, treatment rooms, gardens, restaurant/bar area and bedrooms will remain unaffected.
Penny Holland, director of Moddershall Oaks, said: “This is an exciting move forward for Moddershall Oaks. Our spa is a place for people to relax with friends and family and, the new development adds a real wow factor to that experience. This is a significant tourism development for Staffordshire, creating 18 new jobs over the next two to three years, and adding over 10,000 day and overnight visitors per annum. We are delighted to have been given the go-ahead and are looking forward to seeing our vision come to life.”
