2017 Stone Remembrance Parade and Service

The Annual Parade, together with Services of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Granville Square and later at the Parish Church of St. Michael and St. Wulfad, will take place on Sunday 12th November

The arrangements for the day are as follows: –

  • 10.15 a.m.           Parade Personnel to assemble at the bottom of the High Street.
  • 10.35 a.m.           Parade to proceed along High Street to the Cenotaph.
  • 10.45 a.m.           Presentation of Wreaths in accordance with the attached Order of Presentation. Persons laying wreaths (including any not on the Order of Presentation) should kindly report to Mr I Prescott, the Parade Marshal, during the assembly in the High Street, to be briefed on the wreath laying ceremony.
  • 11.00 a.m.            Two Minutes Silence and Service of Remembrance.

(All those presenting wreaths please be aware of your position in the Order of Presentation and make your way to the front of the assembled group ready to present your wreath when called by the Parade Marshal)

At the conclusion of the Service at the War Memorial, the Parade will proceed to Parish Church of St. Michael and St. Wulfad via High Street and Church Street led by Stone Scout & Guide Band, where the Colour and Standard Bearers are requested to line up at the entrance to the Church, and when instructed enter the Church, present their Colours, and then take the seats reserved for them.

The Colour Parties will receive back their Colours during the final hymn and after the Service the Parade Personnel, led by Stone Scout and Guide Band, will assemble and proceed, via the High Street to Market Square. The Parade will then dismiss at the top of the High Street.

Earlier the customary Service of Remembrance will be held at the Walton War Memorial, Whitemill Lane, Walton, commencing at 9.50 a.m. and you and/or your organisation are cordially invited to participate.  Persons attending should kindly assemble at the War Memorial by 9.40 a.m.

In addition to the Sunday Parade and Service Stone Town Council is supporting the Royal British Legion National initiative in observing a two-minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. A short ceremony will be held at the Cenotaph in Granville Square at 11.00am on Saturday 11th November and the traffic will be halted. A bugler will sound the Last Post and Reveille. Members of the public are invited to join with the Town Mayor, Councillor Jim Davies, and members of ex-Service Organisations in remembering those who gave their lives for us.
