M6 overnight closures and A34 diversions

As part of the work to upgrade the M6 from junctions 13 to 15 to a Smart Motorway, there will be a series of overnight closures

The roadworks are the first stage in converting the hard shoulder to a permanent running lane which should provide increased traffic capacity and more reliable journey times by improving the flow of traffic.

The main construction work begins in June 2018, but there is a need to carry out advance work to prepare the motorway.

As part of this initial works, the project will resurface those sections along the carriageway in need of repair. It will be necessary to reduce the width of the lanes on the motorway in certain areas so that three lanes of traffic can be maintained while also allowing construction work to be done safely.

To achieve this the construction team will need to rearrange the road markings and cat’s eyes and install a barrier to protect the workers when they start work.

To carry out the work it is necessary to close the M6 on the dates and times below.
The works will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption when the roads are quieter.

If you plan to travel on these dates, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys.

Please be aware this work could be subject to change, depending on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
