Review: Thoroughly Modern Millie

Thoroughly Modern Millie, the super sparkly musical, is currently playing at the Regent Theatre

The musical is based on the 1967 movie of the same name, starring Julie Andrews and tells the story of Millie Dillmount, played by Hayley Tamaddon, whose dream is to get a job in New York and marry her boss!

Set in the 1920’s this show is a proper break neck whirlwind of song, dance and comedy.

The costumes were an absolute 1920’s delight and really helped showcase the era’s fashion and style.

The show is a full-on comedy that certainly kept us entertained,  we hadn’t really known what to expect from the show but we found it hilarious in parts. There was a part of the show that we aren’t completely sure was supposed to be there where Millie’s boss, Mr Graydon, almost brought part of the staging down! Accident or not the crowd loved it!

Mrs Meers, who runs the dodgy hotel that the ladies all stay in, is a brilliant character that reminds you somewhat of a pantomime dame, Lucas Rush plays the part with humour and style and we thoroughly enjoyed his performance,

As far as musical numbers go a real highlight was the duet between Millie and her roommate. Their rendition of I’m Falling in Love with Someone was absolutely brilliant.

Another highlight was Millie taking shorthand from her boss Mr Graydon which was a very impressive performance!

The dance routines are fast and furious and Tamaddon absolutely nails each one.

If you’re after a fun evening then you can’t go wrong with Thoroughly Modern Millie which plays at The Regent Theatre until Saturday 26th May 2018. Tickets are available from the Theatre’s website –
