Stone based Fairway Service Station has written to its newspaper delivery customers to inform them that they will be withdrawing the paper delivery service from the 1st July 2018
Paul Lockley, a partner at Fairway Service Station, told A Little Bit of Stone:
“We have been delivering newspapers in Stone since 1983 and are not discontinuing the service lightly but feel that in a changing environment we are unable to provide the level of service our customers expect.
“As a business, we are struggling to recruit and retain newspaper deliverers in a climate when young people can get pocket/spending money without necessarily having to get out of bed earlier and work for it.
“We’d like to thank our current and former newspaper delivery customers for their loyalty and support as well as the many newspaper delivery boys, girls, men and women over the years.”
The shop will continue to stock newspapers and magazines which can be reserved for self-collection from the Lichfield Road shop.
ALBOS reader Ray Wyatt of Aston Lodge said:
“I’ve been a loyal customer of the Fairway Services Station newspaper delivery service for well over 20 years, and am naturally disappointed about the decision to shut down the service.
“I completely understand the reasons behind the decision and will now look to see whether any other Stone newsagents can provide a delivery service up to Aston Lodge.
“As a last resort I may resort to an “online-only” subscription of my chosen paper. However this would be a real shame in a time when local shops are coming under pressure from a lack of customers.”
Do let us know of any other newsagents that will deliver up to the south of the town.
