Staffordshire Police called to reports of armed man in Stone

Staffordshire Police were called to Stone earlier today following reports that a man with a handgun had been spotted near the canal

Earlier today we shared a Facebook status from Staffordshire Police regarding an ongoing incident that was being dealt with by officers in Stone.

Details weren’t forthcoming, and subsequently, the Facebook post was deleted after the incident with no follow-up details of what the incident was.

We spoke to a Staffordshire Police spokesperson about the incident, and they issued the following statement:

“Staffordshire Police were called at 1.25pm to reports that a man was seen with a handgun near to the canal in Stone.

“Officers attended the scene and carried out an area search. No one that matched the description was located. Officers and police community support officers remained in the town centre to offer reassurance.  “

When asked about the deletion of the Facebook post the spokesperson said:

“We deleted the post as the incident had concluded but people were still reading it and getting alarmed. We wrote an update on a comment so all those who had asked/commented would see it.”
