Police launch road traffic collision appeal following Hilderstone accident

Following the death of a local woman, and serious injury to a man, Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision in Hilderstone

On Sunday 5th August Staffordshire Police officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the Uttoxeter Road in Hilderstone, near the junction with Jolpool Lane, at around 1:05 pm.

The accident involved a blue, four-wheeled, horse-drawn carriage that was being pulled by a single brown horse, in the direction of Stone. The carriage finally came to a stop near Heath Farm, approximately 500 yards away from the initial collision point.

The collision resulted in the 55-year-old man driving sustaining serious leg injuries. A 60-year-old woman, who was riding as a passenger, was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital where she died shortly after.

The lady has been named as Valerie Ann Gilbert, from Stone and Valerie’s family are being supported by specially trained officers, and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for help to establish the series of events that led up to the collision.
