One of the UK’s fittest athletes and his fitness instructor partner will give local residents a new way to get fit when they open a new gym and fitness facility at Raleigh Hall Industrial Estate on Saturday 10th November.
Owners Jordan Shuttleworth, 24, and Sophie Hammond. 22, from Stone will hold a launch event for Capacity Functional Fitness 10am to 4pm. The event will offer the chance for people of all abilities to take part in mini competitions, see the facilities and win prizes or discounted memberships.
The new gym will offer classes for all levels of fitness, ranging from strongman and strongwoman sessions to yoga, mobility and gymnastics. For those who want to be the ‘fittest of the fit’ there will be high-intensity intervals, endurance and conditioning sessions.
The gym’s co-owner, Jordan, is a former Royal Marine and was recently crowned winner of ‘London’s Fittest in the City’, at Crossfit London and National Fitness Games ‘UK’s fittest team.’ He is passionate about helping people of all ages and fitness levels to develop their strength, capacity, fitness, nutrition and wellbeing.
Jordan says: “Functional fitness can involve running, rowing, cycling, moving weights, throwing, jumping, and functional movements such as squatting, pressing, deadlifting and much more. All movements can be scaled to any fitness ability and of course will be fun.
Our group sizes will be small – we give people close personal attention, so they work at their own fitness level, with the right balance of challenge, encouragement and safety. It’s all about improving your health and wellbeing, psychologically and physically – and in turn your fitness levels.”
With a focus on being ‘functionally fit’ inside and out, the Raleigh Hall facility will provide personal training, group training, nutritional programmes and diet plans. There will also be specialist training on offer for athletes, rehabilitation for armed forces personnel, sports teams and much more.
Jordan’s partner and co-owner at Capacity Functional Fitness, Sophie Hammond is a trained fitness instructor and gymnastics coach. Although she has always been fit and healthy, since changing her style of work-out to include functional fitness work, she has dropped two dress sizes to a size 10.
She says: “Switching my style of training to functional fitness grew my strength, stamina, endurance and most of all my confidence. The physiological changes are undeniable, but the psychological benefits of finding something I love and pushing myself everyday are indispensable.
That’s why I feel so passionate about encouraging everyone through the doors to our new gym. There really is something for everyone and Jordan and I both find it incredibly rewarding to see people not only achieve their goals but surpass them. That’s why we do what we do and why we’re excited to be the first gym in Eccleshall.”
