Inn Ringers hoping for better weather

Stone’s Inn Ringers are keeping their fingers crossed for better weather this year, after last year’s Christmas event was cancelled due to snow!

This time last year the Inn Ringers were busy putting together their programme for their annual Christmas concert – ahead of them, five weeks of rehearsals, planning their buffet supper, gathering raffle prizes, putting together their Christmas stall and preparing their mulled wine and mince pies.

All went well until the day before the concert when the snow came. The morning of their concert they had to make decision to cancel their event due to the weather.

Team secretary Rowena Dawson said “It was so sad we had to cancel our concert last year, so much work had gone into it and it was the first time in 40 years we had been forced to cancel a concert. We had practiced new arrangements to play for the first time in public, all the food was organised and the mulled wine was made – the team did manage to make good use of the mulled wine! The whole team were disappointed that we were unable to do the concert, so fingers crossed, this year we will have better weather!!”

Before their Christmas concert, they have a concert at St. Luke’s Church, Tittensor on Saturday 24th November as well as concert dates in Leek and Nottingham.

Rowena said “We are all excited about travelling over to Nottingham to do a Christmas concert there. We really enjoy going to venues we have not been to before and entertaining a new audience. Most the invitations we get are for return bookings, which is great, we feel very flattered to be asked back to perform for organisations again, so we try to keep the programme fresh and include pieces we didn’t play during our previous visit.”

Another key member of the team looking forward to the annual Christmas concert is the new Musical Director, Steve Holmes.

Steve took over as MD in January and says”I am so looking forward to the Christmas concert. The Inn Ringers have built up a well-deserved reputation for their Christmas concerts, it’s the highlight of the year for the team and I am thrilled to be a part of it this year.”

Steve goes on to say “The team have a wonderful range of Christmas music in their repertoire which they have built up over the last 40 years – it has been a difficult task picking out which tunes to play. There will be varied programme of festive music from the very traditional to the more contemporary – it promises to be an entertaining afternoon.”

The Inn Ringers Annual Christmas Concert will take place at the Meir Heath and Rough Close Village Hall on Sunday 9th December at 3.00pm. Tickets can be obtained by contacting Rowena on 01782 392621 or by email theinnringers@aol.com
