After a major national provider was hit by financial concerns, Staffordshire County Council has stepped in to ensure home care visits for people across the county will continue.
The council took the proactive decision to transfer care to new providers by December 14 after Allied Healthcare announced it would no longer be able to provide care in the county. Alternative arrangements are now being put in place to ensure a smooth transfer of care and people who receive care will continue to do so.
Officers are also working to help transfer existing Allied staff to the new service companies. People in Newcastle have been told their care will be transferred to Archangel Care, while those in Stafford and Cannock will see care moved to Nexxus Care.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing Alan White said: “We been working closely with Allied since we were notified of their financial situation, but in the interests of service users we have decided to end our contract with them.
“We have been working for a number of weeks on contingency plans, and have enacted these to ensure the 300 people in Staffordshire that receive care from Allied will continue to have their needs met. We will also look to help Allied staff transfer to one of the new care providers.
“We know that this will be an unsettling time for staff and people receiving home care, and the county council is doing everything possible to minimise the impact and reassure them that alternative plans are in place. Our Staffordshire Cares helpline is on hand for service users and staff if they have any more questions.”
The Staffordshire Cares helpline on 0300 111 8010 is available should staff, service users or their families feel they need to speak to someone. Lines are open between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on a Saturday.
