Man fined for warden assault

The assault happened outside Hylands

A Stone man who assaulted a traffic warden outside Hylands in the town centre has been fined.

The warden was pushed into railings outside Hylands electrical store in the High Street on 15th October. In a report made by the warden after the incident, he said he was speaking to the owner of the car he had issued a ticket to when another man approached and attached him.

At Cannock Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29th November, Christopher Dean, aged 52, of White Hart Court, was fined £100 for assault by beating.

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and £75 compensation to his victim.

The officer, who wanted to remain anonymous, said afterwards: “I would like this to send a message to others that if you use this type of behaviour towards civil enforcement officers you can expect to be prosecuted.”

A charge of using threatening words and behaviour also relating to the incident was dismissed.

Stone Inspector Carl Humphries said: “It was a totally unwarranted assault which really shook up the warden. We will not tolerate violence on any street and we will actively pursue any offenders.”
