Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service wants to know if you’ve been pushing your button!
The service’s Push The Button campaign urges people to push the button on their smoke alarms weekly. The campaign, into its second year, will see the official Push The Button Day taking place on Thursday 13th October.
The campaign is driven by the fact that although nine out of 10 household have smoke alarms, seven out of 10 don’t test them.
The service is asking people to share their tips on remembering to push the button weekly via the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service official Facebook page. The best tip will win a family ticket to Alton Towers. Just ‘like’ the Facebook page and then write your tip on the page.
To raise awareness of the campaign last year, the Service recorded their own version of the Sugababes’ single Push The Button. Last year’s version by the ‘Sugaflames’ has an accompanying music video in which firefighters from across the county star and to date has had over 30,000 hits on YouTube and the service’s website.[youtube m0qOCBNwT-A]
Risk reduction manager Dave Steele said: “The video was an instant hit on our website and YouTube last year and the viewing numbers are still rising on a regular basis.
“We have had hits from all over the world and the video has been played on a number of radio stations and even on the TV. The main reason for the video was to raise awareness of the fact that although we have had success in encouraging a lot of residents in Staffordshire to fit smoke alarms, the smoke alarms are useless if they don’t work and the only way to check they work is to push the button.”
Firefighters from across the county will be out and about on Push The Button Day promoting the campaign.
