Stone survive Talbot Cup scare
Stone survived an almighty scare last Sunday to progress to the third round of the Talbot Cup.
Visiting Caverswall, the Stone bowlers dominated and dismissed the home side for a lowly 73. James Ecclestone with 3 for 3, together with Matt Coxon and Calum Price – who picked up two each – were pick of the Stone bowlers. In reply at 50 for 1, Stone were cruising.
Then a clatter of wickets, with Gregory Phillips picking up 5 for 22, left Stone teetering on 70 for 9. A clear head from Calum Price, though, with a well-timed 6 rescued the day – not to mention the nerves of the Stone faithful! On Sunday Stone welcome Leek to Lichfield Road in the next round.
Stone on top in derby clash
In the local derby clash between Stone and Oulton, Stone came away with the spoils.
Oulton batted first and thanks to 52 runs from Little Stoke’s Ryan Cryer, who they had brought in due to a player shortage, they reached a solid score of 132 for 6 wickets, with George Hawbrook and Lewis Banks picking up two wickets a piece.
In reply, Stone reached the required total for the loss of just two wickets, James Ecclestone top scoring with 39 and George Hawbrook contributing with 36.This week they travel to Hanford.
Weather spoils league fixtures
Stone 1st X1 welcomed Wood Lane and after a late start, Stone batted first. Thanks to 65 from opener James Dawson and 30 from David Womble, captain Richard Harvey was able to declare on 175 for 5 once maximum batting points gained. In reply, Wood Lane reached 57 for 1 at the close
The weather also spoilt the Stone SP 1st X1 fixture. Stone SP batted first and reached 104 for 7 wickets before declaring, with Jack Thorley (22) and James Sutton (21) top scoring. In reply, visitors Bagnall reached 70 for the loss of 4 wickets, with Andrew Winfield picking up 2 for 17.
