Summer fun for youngsters with COPS
Police community support officers in Stone are providing some free activities for youngsters over the summer school break.
Called COPS (Community Outreach Project for Stone), the scheme has been developed by PCSOs Jenny Ludlow-Smith (Stone town centre) and Ian Brewis (South-west Stone and Eccleshall).
These are the activities that have been lined up for youngsters between the ages of eight and 16:
31st July, 2-4pm: Dodgeball, arts & crafts at Stonefield Park
7th August, 2-4pm: Football at Christchurch Academy
18th August: Introduction to fishing at Carney Pools in Cannock Chase (limited numbers)
22nd August, 2-4pm: Dodgeball, arts & crafts at Stonefield Park
PCSO Jenny Ludlow-Smith said: “The aim of the project is to promote positive activities for young people and for community engagement. Many parents say to me how they remember the old SPACE scheme when they were at school and how this changed their experience of the police. I experienced the SPACE scheme, met my local beat bobby and learned about what he did. It was great. Hopefully we can expand on COPS after the summer and we are hoping to run events through half terms as well. The team are all very excited and can’t wait to get going.”
