Former mayor hands over charity funds

Left to Right: Michael Jackman, Gerry Etchells, Cllr Mike Shaw and Alan Taylor

Councillor Mike Shaw (third from left) poses for his final act as Stone’s Mayor by handing over the funds he raised for three of his chosen charities.

From left to right, Michael Jackman from Katharine House Hospice, Gerry Etchells from Age Concern Stone and Alan Taylor from Stone Community First Responders were all donated £635 by Cllr Mike Shaw, who raised the funds through various gatherings.

Every year, the town Mayor can nominate a single or number of charities that they wish to support and raise money for over the 12 months that they are Mayor of Stone. The money is raised from street collections, civic services at St Michael’s Church in Stone and dinners, donations and various other sources.

The town mayor for 2013/14 is Cllr Jill Piggott – all the best to her for a great year in office!
