Aston Marina sees change of direction in 2017

Aston MarinaStone’s highly regarded waterside foodie haven, Aston Marina, will see some exciting changes taking place early this year but at the expense of the farm shop.

The Marina is set to expand its popular restaurant and events capacity following a busy first 12 months for its purpose built ‘Boat House’ wedding and event venue. Director Helen Webb explains:

“We’ve had an incredible first year in the Boat House and enquiries are pouring in all the time. We’re also at a stage with the Bistro where we are having to turn away bookings purely due to the restricted size of the restaurant. On this basis, we have taken the decision to expand the restaurant into the space currently occupied by the Farm Shop.

“Unfortunately, this will mean that the Farm Shop will be closed, but it’s not a decision we have taken lightly. The Farm Shop is something we have been passionate about and genuinely enjoyed creating, but the popularity of the other areas of the business combined with the fact that yet another supermarket is set to open in Stone in the near future means that we have had to reconsider our position. We are hugely excited about expanding the restaurant and events side of the business and are confident that it will see the creation of more new jobs at the marina.”

The development will see the marina’s award-winning kitchen team build on its reputation for serving great food in the Bistro, with the new restaurant significantly increasing seating capacity. The newly designed space will have a comfortable, cosy and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks seven days a week. The move will also see the marina expand its increasingly popular calendar of events such as its Christmas party nights, themed nights, cookery masterclasses and regular charity fundraising evenings.

The farm shop will close its doors for the final time on Sunday, 5th February with a huge sale with up to 50% off all stock taking place from Saturday 21st January. Work on the new bar and restaurant will commence on Monday 6th February with a view to it launching in late April. The Bistro and Boat House will continue to operate as usual throughout the expansion. Aston Marina have issued this statement update 13/02/2017-

“We understand that people are disappointed to hear of the Farm Shop closure. We are too – it is something we worked hard to establish, but we feel we have to make a decision now in the face of even more competition coming to Stone with the new store at Westbridge Park. The most sustainable route forward is to focus on the restaurant and wedding venue side of the business – this will ensure long term job security for more members of staff and the creation of many more jobs for the area in the mid to long term.”
