Overnight car fire at Morrisons in Stone

Stone’s fire engine was dispatched to an early morning car fire at Stone’s Morrisons supermarket

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call at 4.41 am this morning (7th March 2018.

Stone’s fire crew were dispatched to the Mill Street store where they encountered a saloon vehicle well alight.

A local Stone resident who witnessed the incident said “ I was at home and heard bangs and hissing coming from outside.  I went to see what was going on and saw that the noises were coming from a car on fire in Morrisons car park. I called 999 and explained that there was a lot of smoke and noise coming from the car. The firefighters were on the scene very quickly and did a good job of putting the fire out.”

The firefighters used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the vehicle fire.

The fire service has stated the cause as “unknown”, and the incident details have been passed on to Staffordshire Police for investigation.  The incident is covered under incident number 071 of the 7th March 2018 if anyone has any further information for the police.

Recovery of the car has now been arranged through the owners’ insurance company.
