Ethan Masterson, a 10-year-old pupil at St. Dominic’s Priory School in Stone, will today reach the halfway point of a Captain Sir Tom Moore inspired fundraising challenge for NHS Charities Together.
Ethan’s mum Michelle spoke to A Little Bit of Stone about what inspired him and what he’ll be doing.:
“Ethan was so inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore that he wrote this tribute to him, pledging to follow his example by taking on a challenge for 100 days.Ethan set himself the challenge of running 2 miles a day to raise money for the NHS as his way to pay tribute to the heroic efforts of Captain Sir Tom.”

Ethan has had fantastic support from his fellow pupils and staff at St Dominic’s Priory School in Stone. They have encouraged Ethan throughout his challenge, with his form teacher and Head of Prep, Mrs Talbot even running a socially distanced mile with him at mile 50 (day 25) cheered on by Head Teacher, Mrs Harrison, and the rest of the school on the other side of the canal.
Today marks day 50 of Ethan’s challenge, and whilst there has been blood(blisters), sweat and tears along the way, Ethan has enjoyed pounding the miles mostly along our beautiful Stone canal towpath – some days with the whole family in tow!Michelle added:
“His legs are tired from the continual grind of the 100 miles so far, and running is not really Ethan’s thing – he’s more of a front-row rugby player – so this challenge has been really tough for him and painful at times. However, he is still going strong and has raised more than £2,400 to date for the NHS Charities Together.Ethan is now on the final leg with 50 days and 100 miles to go!!! And Ethan is determined to do what he can to raise even more money for the NHS. “
If you see Ethan on his daily run, please do show your support by giving him a cheer or a wave, and if you have any spare pennies and wish to donate to NHS Charities Together, you can do so from Ethan’s JustGiving page:
There are lots of pics and a daily log on the JustGiving page, but here are just a few attached. And there’ll be some celebratory banners and balloons to mark day 50 / the 100-mile mark.
