Stone’s Lymestone Brewery is producing a special ale to celebrate Stoke City’s charge to the FA Cup semi-final.
The Potters play Bolton Wanderers at Wembley on Sunday 17th April and life-long supporter and Lymestone head brewer Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford is producing an ale called Stone Banker to mark the occassion.
Stone Banker? Manager Tony Pulis uttered the phrase after the quarter-final against West Ham, when Frederic Piquionnes scored for the Hammers following a blatant handball. “It was a stone banker handball,” Pulis commented.
Brad said: “The manager’s mixed metaphor gave me the perfect name because all Lymestone ales have to contain the word ‘Stone’.
“I’ve been a Stoke fan all my life, and all the family are mad fans as well, so it’s just brilliant to be going to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final.
“I really wanted to celebrate their success, so Stone Banker was born. I’ve been looking to produce a special Stoke City beer for ages – I’m thrilled I’ve finally got the chance!”
Stone Banker will be available soon direct from the brewery and from wholesalers. Bottles could well become collectors’ items!

Hi there. Yes, I’m looking forward to sampling too! They’re a fantastic local company here in Stone and it’s brilliant to see them going from strength to strength. I just hope some of their Gaul Stone, brewed specially for the real ale festival, is available in Stone. Fingers crossed!
