Stone set for Jubilee celebrations!

Stone High Street during the royal wedding street party last year

There will be a street party in Stone to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, as well as the lighting of a beacon as part of national celebrations.

Stone Town Council’s tourism and town promotion committee meets on Tuesday 20th Marchto finalise arrangements but committee chair Cllr Charlie Hearing confirmed today that a street party and lots of other celebrations will be taking place in the town.

On Monday 4th June at St Michael’s Church a beacon will be lit at 10pm (as thousands of others are lit across the country), followed by a fireworks display.

The date of the street party, which will take place in the High Street like last year’s royal wedding celebration, should be confirmed at Tuesday’s meeting. Other events are also in the pipeline and more information will be revealed later.

Cllr Hearing said: “The Diamond Jubilee is a huge occasion and we certainly want to celebrate it here in Stone. It’s going to be brilliant for the whole community.”

The town council committee meeting takes place on Tuesday 20th March at 7pm at Stone Town Council on Station Road.

Local groups and charities who want to be involved in the street party can email jubilee@alittlebitofstone.com and we’ll pass your details to the town council.
