World Cup gold for Lizzie Neave

Stone’s Lizzie Neave struck gold at the Canoe Slalom World Cup in Cardiff at the end of June.

Lizzie won the gold medal in the K1 women’s final, her first win in an individual event.

She competed for Team GB in at London 2012, finishing twelfth. You might remember the support in the town for the member of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club on Westbridge Park – more on that HERE. And last year she switched on the town’s Christmas lights, and opened the food festival.

Before the Cardiff World Cup, her international season has seen her finish seventh at the European Championships at Krakow recently, where she also won silver in the Women’s K1 team. She was selected for the Team GB squad for this season back in May.

Lizzie told GB Canoeing: “That’s my first individual gold medal so I’m really happy. I’ve had gold medals in the team events before but never in the individuals. My previous best was a bronze at the Worlds, Europeans and World Cup but never better than that. It’s great to know that when I’m on plan I can be the fastest in the world.”

Lizzie has written a fantastic post on her blog HERE about her World Cup gold medal.
