A host of fundraising events have been organised to raise £10,000 for a local epilepsy charity in memory of Lally McColl, who died recently aged just 21.
Lally’s godmother Sharon Turner, who is heading the fundraising mission, explains more about what’s planned and how local people and businesses can get involved…
After losing my godson Kieran Lally McColl back in may this year in such a tragic accident I knew there was one more thing that I could do for him and that was to do some fundraising in his memory.
Kieran, aged just 21 years of age lost his life while walking along the tow path home after leaving his friend’s wake. He lost his footing, fell in and drowned.
From the age of 13 Kieran suffered from epilepsy , so our chosen charity is ‘Gemma’s Ray of Hope’. This is a local epilepsy charity which helps educate and support others with this problem.
I also felt our younger community needed to focus on something positive to help with their grieving after losing two friends within 6 weeks of one another. This is a double blow to these young adults and has been a very difficult time.
We have set up a fundraising page on Facebook called Lally’s Charity Events, which is where we advertise all our events from sponsored events to organised events. There is also a Twitter account and we’re using the #Lol4Lally hashtag.
I have set a target of £10.000 – very high, I know, but this is where our lovely town can contribute and help.
If there is anybody willing to do a sponsored event but can not decide which charity to choose then please consider us. I can forward a link for sponsor forms and promote your event on our page. We already have people doing an array of things from the Three Peaks Challenge, sponsored swim, walk, Snowdon challenge, bungee jump, longest zip wire ride, waxing, raft building, parachute jump and bike rides – and that’s just to name a few.
On July 12th we are holding a charity car wash, American-style at The Three Crowns. There will be plenty of young ladies to help get your alloys glowing!
July 27th we are holding a five-a-side football tournament to raise funds. There will be a maximum of 12 teams. There will be a charge of £10 per person. All proceeds going to the charity.
August 23rd we are holding a ‘ladies night’ at Stone Cricket Club. Tickets available at £10 each. We will be entertained by the band ‘Sugarush’ followed by four of our brave local lads performing The Full Monty!!
There will also be a tennis-a-thon held at Stone Tennis Club. Date yet to be confirmed.
We ask if there is anyone else willing to help in any way that can help us to reach our target. Large companies to hold ‘ bring a pound day’ perhaps?
We are also in need of raffle prizes for our family fun day which will be held at Stone Cricket Club on Sunday 21st September. This will be our final day to round up all our fundraising efforts. There will be something for everyone.
Please join in the fun and support us for such a great cause in any which way you can. You can contact me by facebook or email at sshzngrhm@aol.com
Lally touched our hearts and we want to make him proud.
