UKIP has selected its candidate for the Stone constituency for the General Election on 7th May.
Andrew Illsley was unanimously elected at the UKIP Stone branch meeting on 13 January 2015. Andrew – who is married with two grown-up children – moved to Stone in 1988 with his family to work in the ceramics industry. During his career he worked for a number of companies and progressed from basement to boardroom, ending up as a director of a local well known international company. Following this, he started up and ran his own successful marketing company for 10 years.
He has been the Chairman of the Stone UKIP branch for the past five years and also chairman of UKIP Staffordshire for the same period. UKIP says the Stone branch and its membership has grown from strength to strength during that time, holding well attended monthly meetings.
Andrew said: “Following on from the party’s success in the EU elections, I am delighted to be standing to represent UKIP in the Stone constituency for the May 2015 Parliamentary election. I intend to campaign hard throughout the constituency with a dedicated team of fellow supporters and looking forward to meeting as many constituents as I can.
“I joined UKIP because I love my country, its traditions, its freedoms and its sense of justice, all of which are threatened by our continued membership of the European Union. I want a free and fair Great Britain.
“Only UKIP has campaigned consistently for our complete withdrawal from the EU. A vote for UKIP is a vote to leave the EU. We would then recover power over our national life trading freely with our European neighbours. After all, we are the EU’s largest export market: they depend on us for jobs – not the other way round.
“It is clear that people are looking for a fresh approach to politics instead of being let down by the out of touch mainstream political parties. Only UKIP are listening to the electorate and responding with common sense solutions for an independent free and fair Britain.”
